(Feb. 18) -- The word “scrotum” does not often appear in polite conversation. Or children’s literature, for that matter.Yet there it is on the first page of “The Higher Power of Lucky,” by Susan Patron, this year’s winner of the Newbery Medal, the most prestigious award in children’s literature. The book’s heroine, a scrappy 10-year-old orphan named Lucky Trimble, hears the word through a hole in a wall when another character says he saw a rattlesnake bite his dog, Roy, on the scrotum. “Scrotum sounded to Lucky like something green that comes up when you have the flu and cough too much,” the book continues. “It sounded medical and secret, but also important.” The inclusion of the word has shocked some school librarians, who have pledged to ban the book from elementary schools, and reopened the debate over what constitutes acceptable content in children’s books. The controversy was first reported by Publishers Weekly, a trade magazine. There was a river in the way, due to rain last night the river was hard and there were no any bridge I had to walk in the water and cross. I had tiffin for them in my both hand. I was getting afraid to cross and there were nobody to help me cross the river so I thought to cross it. Slowly I came to the river and step inside slowly I walk through and I came to middle suddenly a big wave came and strike me i was trimble and fell to the water, I was helpless, I cried a lot, but there were nobody around, I still cried suddenly a man walk in the bank of river he heard me and came to save me. He caught me and took me to the other side of the river, still then I had drunk a lot water from river, my clother were all wet, and I cried a lot.
