Congressman wants government GPS in cars; Proposes mileage-based gas tax that would monitor travels. Posted: August 05, 2k9By Bob Unruh © 2009 WorldNetDailyRep. Earl Blumenauer, D-Ore, an Oregon congressman, says he wants to test having a government GPS unit in every car so a tax could be imposed on the miles driven. The proposal, H.R. 3311, which calls for a test project costing $150 million-plus, was introduced by Rep. Earl Blumenauer, D-Ore."Oregon has successfully tested a Vehicle Miles Traveled fee, and it is time to expand and test the VMT program across the country," he said in a statement on his website. "A VMT system can better assess fees based on use of our roads and bridges, as well as during times of peak congestion, than a fee based on fuel consumption."It is time to get creative & find smart ways to rebuild & renew America's deteriorating infrastructure," he said. His plan...
| | Sony Ericsson P1i GPS | | Hello friends, I own a Sony Ericsson P1i phone without the in-built gps receiver; however it is compatible with the GPS. I am planning to buy an external gps receiver, which can be connected to the phone via bluetooth.I am curious to know if someone has tried this. Will it affect the battery life? Or most importantly, will it be tedious to use two gadgets at a time? If so,I would plan to buy a phone with in-built GPS. Thanks.is website. The test was convenient for drivers, protected personal privacy, and proved to be easily administrable."In a WND column, however, Henry Lamb raised several... | |

A GPS receiver or a video service to make the PSP a truly portable entertainment system that can easily fit into your pocket. But given the recent slowdown in the economy, I wonder if Sony is still going ahead with its plans to add upgrades modules to the PSP console. How about you? | | Geocaching: Searching for Treasures | | I have really taken to this hobby sport. Geocaching involves using a handheld gps receiver to find hidden treasures, usually in the woods. The website, Geocaching.org explains it all. That is the main international website where people post where they have hidden the cache, along with the coordinates. Usually, the cache is in tupperware or a water-proof container. Inside is a log that you sign, and a small trinket. You can take a trinket but you have to leave one, too. This has been a great way to explore parts of our community and state that I would not have normally gone to. I have found spots around the Twin Cities that you just would not expect. There is a spot near home that is almost like being in the mountains. You walk a trail, looking down into a valley. It also gives the added benefit of exercise. Once you make the find, you log it on the website and add any info you want. I have about 115 finds so far. This is an international game, with more caches being added everyday.Young kids really like it because of the prizes. Try it out sometime!
| | Global Positioning System- GPS- Amazing | | The Global Positioning System (GPS) is the only fully functional Global Navigation Satellite System(GNSS) Utilizing a constellation of at least 24 medium Earth orbit satellites that transmit precise microwave signals, the system enables a GPS receiver to determine its location, speed, direction and time.
Developed by the United States Department of Defense, it is officially named NAVSTAR GPS. The satellite constellation is managed by the United States Air Force 50th Space Wing. The cost of maintaining the system is approximately US$750 million per year including the replacement of aging satellites and research and development.
A GPS receiver calculates its position by measuring the distance between itself and three or more GPS satellites. Each satellite has an atomic clock, and continually transmits messages containing the exact time, the location of the satellite (the ephemeris), and the general system health (the almanac).

| | Finding the way home | | Hundreds of years ago, travellers found their way by looking at the stars. They built towers that could be seen from far, made maps and invented the compass. Nowadays, almost every explorer and mountain climber uses the Global Positioning System (GPS) to make their journeys safer. There are even plans to put GPS receivers on all the taxis in Beijing in time for the 2008 Olympics. Finding your way has never been so easy. Technology has changed our lives: for less than 500 yuan, you can get a pocket-sized GPS gadget that will tell you exactly where you are on Earth at any moment. When people talk about a GPS, they usually mean a GPS receiver. The GPS is actually a set of 27 Earth-orbiting satellites-24 in operation and three extras in case one fails. The US army developed this satellite network as a military navigation system in the 1970s, but opened it up to business use in the 1990s. A GPS receiver locates these satellites, records the distance to each, and uses the information to calculate the receiver’s exact position on Earth. | |
