Welcome to gmaptrack

gmaptrack allows you to create and place your own information onto Google Maps, and share with others.

It is currently in beta, with the intention of showing the possibilities of Google Maps integration. It is not official or authorised by Google in any way, and relies on Google allowing third party access to their maps by others. For those who have read about the craigslist + Google Maps site, this site will allow you to create your own set of customized Google Maps.

New! A quick Tutorial is now available

Current features are:

Locations - add your own locations, with icons, pictures and links

Display your own locations on Google Maps, with custom details and images, together with a url link to another website. You can group a collection of locations into different categories, assign different icons to locations, and publish them. The locations can be updated through the gmaptrack web interface, or uploaded from a CSV or XML file.

Trips - plot your trips, or upload from a GPS unit or Mobile Phone (Soon)

Show the route of a trip on Google Maps, together with any waypoint locations, photographs taken and distance/altitude covered. Upload from a GPS unit (Magellan, Garmin, etc), a GPX file, enter them manually, or link to follow your mobile phone and update the trip automatically over GPRS or 3G.

Trackers - real-time position tracking from your Mobile Phone and GPS (Soon)

Show your physical position in real-time on a moving Google Map. A small application on your mobile phone uploads your GPS position periodically over either GPRS or 3G, which updates your position on a moving Google Map. Currenlty, an application for Symbian Series 60 phones (Nokia 6630 etc.) are in beta (demo here), with Motorola iDEN GPS Phone support being investigated.

With mobile phone GPS becoming more commonplace, low-cost vehicle / package / person tracking with Google Maps could become quite popular. Future plans could include setting up 'electronic ring-fences' that trigger an email when crossed, together with a facility to give people access to their delivery information in real time (e.g. a "Where's my Pizza?" service). Let's hope that Google will offer an official Maps API that can integrate their sponsored keywords / locations for third party use.
